Japan’s Compulsory Educational System/ 日本の義務教育

 Japan institutes a 9-year compulsory education system: a 6-year period at elementary school and a 3-year period at junior high school.

 Eligible children must be aged from 6 to 12 for elementary school and from 12 to 15 for junior high school as at April 1.

 Japanese schools adopt three terms beginning on April 1 and ending in March of the following year.

 For a foreign child residing in Japan, schooling is not mandatory; however, he/she can attend an elementary or junior high school if you wish. No procedure is necessary if you have no intention to send your child to a municipal school.

  When a child reaches the age to start elementary education as a new enrollee, Misato City will send a Notice of School Enrollment in October of the previous year to the parents or guardians of the applicable child of upcoming new enrollment in April. Please take an enrollment procedure after you receive the notice.

  School districts are established for each school and your child’s school will be designated based on his/her address in the Basic Resident Record.

School Choice System of Junior High Schools/ 中学校の学校選択

  School choice system allows you to choose a school which your child wish to attend. If a number of applicants from the area outside of its school district exceeds the capacity of school, the applicants will be selected by lot.

Procedures for School Transfer/ 転校の手続き

 If your child moves into Misato City from other municipality, moves out to other city, or change the address within the city, you need to complete the procedures at Resident Affairs Division or KIBOU-no Sato Koryu Center Shutchojo (branch office), School Affairs Division, and the school respectively.

Tuition and Expenses/ 学費と経費

 Students of municipal elementary school and junior high school dose not charged any admission, tuition or textbook expenses. However, parents need to pay fees for such as school lunch, school supplies, school trips and activities.

School Attendance Aid/ 就学援助

 School Attendance Aid is a financial assistance for guardians whose child has difficulties in attending elementary or junior high school due to financial reasons of his/her household. Misato City subsidizes part of those expenses (e.g., school supplies, medical care expenses, school lunch) necessary for a child’s school life.

 How to apply for the aid will be notified from your child’s school and Misato City Official Website.

Education Loan for Entering (High School, Junior College, College/University)/ 入学準備金(高校等・短大・大学)の貸付け

 Misato City provides a ‘no interest’ education loan to parents or guardians of students who wish to enter a school [such as high school, institute of technology (industry, marine etc.), advanced vocational school (which grants a qualification for taking a college/university admission test), junior college, and college/ university (excluding for technical school and vocational school)] and who have difficulty in preparing funds for entering these schools. (Application period: from mid-October to the next early February.)

*Loan application must meet all requirements stated below.

  • The parent/guardian is a registered resident and actually living in Misato City
  • The child who is planning to enter a school is a registered resident and actually living in Misato City
  • The parent/guardian has difficulty in preparing funds for entering the school
  • The parent/guardian provides a joint guarantor who meets the requirements

■Maximum loan amount/ 貸付金の限度額

  • For public high school entrance ------------- 150,000 yen or less
  • For private high school entrance ------------ 250,000 yes or less
  • For college/university or junior college ----- 400,000 yen or less

Kindergarten Enrollment/ 幼稚園の入園について

 Around November every year, kindergartens start to accept applications for enrollment in the next school year. Inquire with each kindergarten if you have any questions concerning admission or any other matters.

 In Misato City, there are three libraries (Shiritsu, Waseda, Hokubu), four library rooms (Community Center, Towa-higashi, Hikonari, Takasu-chiku Bunka Center), and Misato Chuo NIODORI Plaza ‘Reservation Book Receipt Counter’. Anyone who lives in Misato City or one who work or enrolled in school in the city can borrow books and materials reserved in the libraries (library rooms) for free of charge.

Misato Sky Park/ 三郷スカイパーク

  Located above the wastewater treatment facility, Nakagawa Mizu Junkan Center, the park covers an area of 7ha and has a multi-purpose ground fully covered with the lawn where everyone can enjoy soccer, ground golf or other sports, and a circuit walking track of approximately 920m long.

Misato Park offers a traditional country view with a beautiful waterside space faced with Mizumoto Park in Tokyo. The Park also has a barbecue site which available all year around.
